"Artusi is all very 2014. It's smart and keenly priced. It's ever-changing and ingredient-led" noted Jay Rayner approvingly of Artusi when it first opened. "Everything is supremely self-confident." he continued, "The kitchen knows what it's doing. Gimmicks are unnecessary." This self-confidence is down to chef, James Beer, who worked previously at the Clove Club in east London and who has put together a menu of panzanella, octopus with potatoes and parsley, spaghetti all' amatriciana, and Old Spot Pork Loin with runner beans and bagna cauda. There are only two desserts on the menu - torta donizetta and chocolate and coffee ice creams give an example - to be enjoyed while sitting in the simple surroundings of white walls, wooden tables and an open kitchen. "Lucky old Peckham, eh?" says food critic Jay Rayner.
