This casual-dining Korean restaurant is the brainchild of Jan Lee, alumni of the award-winning Roka, who grew up in his parent's restaurants along the Scottish borders. Bo Drake delivers the big flavours and smoky meats Jan found on his travels, through his Chinese heritage, British upbringing and through his wife Yoo Jay - who he met at the Royal College of Art - who introduced him to South Korean cuisine. Using British seasonal produce, the menu is East Asian BBQ with an emphasis on smoked cooking, and traditional South-East Asian sweet and pickled flavours. The 50-cover restaurant's signature meat dishes include smoked Bobo chicken, with sriracha, lime and herbs, Dan Dan smoked belly, with chanterelles, spring onions, peanut and noodles, and pork and eel dumpling, with Sichuan peppercorns & chilli oil. Seafood dishes of Loch Ryan oysters, with apple and kimchi mignonette, and fatty tuna bowl, with avocado, jalapeno remoulade & rice are served alongside vegetarian dishes - spicy buckwheat noodles with cucumber and Korean pear, grilled corn cob with cotija cheese, and Jan's kimchi and potato pancake are just some examples.
