TV chef and creator of School of Wok, Jeremy Pang, brings a taste of Hong Kong to London with Cha Chaan Teng, a Chinese diner in Holborn. In homage to the cafe subculture which sprung up all over 1950s Hong Kong after the war, the menu takes traditional Chinese recipes and integrates them with Western ingredients. Options include crispy duck with French toast and orange maple, prawn toast gets pimped up with lobster and large groups can order family-style sharing plates such as chilli tiger prawns with lobster claws and whole crispy sea bream with sha cha sauce. But leave room for the hedgehog cinnamon doughnut bun with an oozing duck egg yolk centre, served with condensed milk dipping sauce for afters. The interior, by Shed Design, is inspired by the original no frills cha chaan teng cafes, but with an art deco slant mixing materials such as polished marble with utilitarian and functional formica.
