An authentic French bistro, leaning towards the South of France, Chabrot Bistrot d'Amis is a small restaurant with serious backing in the shape of four Frenchmen who have spent decades working in the industry. Thierry Laborde (previously at Le Gavroche and L'Oranger where he earned a Michelin star) is the chef, Yann Chevris brings his experience at Nahm and Nobu to front of house, Phillipe Messy is sommelier and Pascal Lavorel is the man responsible for the floral arrangements. It may be "small and demure" (writes Jay Rayner in the Observer magazine) but it is "perfectly slathered in Parisian birstro tropes and cliches". He recommends the crumbly duck liver, crunchy red cabbage salad and large prawns served on the plancha over and above dessert ("Chabrot does not have a sweet tooth"). Chabrot may appear casual with its red and white rustic table linen from the Basque country, tables crammed together, and small plates to share but it's serious about food and, considering the calibre of the four men behind it and the Knightsbridge location - opposite the Mandarin Oriental Hotel - the "pricing is democractic in the extreme" (The Times).
