CoBa on York Way is the brainchild of Vietnamese born, Australia raised Damon Bui who built up a reputation through his supperclub Table for 10 where his stated mission was "to share food as my mum cooked it and to spread the Vietnamese and Australian love of food and having a good time". Three years on, Damon has found a permanent site in King's Cross for CoBa - which means auntie number 3, the family name for his mother - in honour of both of Damon's parents who travelled to Australia as refugees, not speaking a word of English. Drawing on his Vietnamese heritage as inspiration for the menu, the focus is on barbecue flavours with meats cooked on a charcoal grill served with a noodle salad, and soup noodles. Supperclub specials included a springtime toddy cocktail, candied bacon popcorn, crepe souffle, pate choux bun followed by petit macarons and Whitechapel tea cocktail to finish with something sweet.
