Chefs Rafael Cagali and Paulo Airaudo, originally from Brazil and Argentina respectively, opened Da Terra in January 2019. Just nine months later, the restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star. Located a stone's throw from The City, in Bethnal Green's Town Hall Hotel, the restaurant combines the chefs' experiences from time spent growing up in Latin America and working in Italy and Spain. Having met while working at The Fat Duck in 2011, then parting ways to gain further experience in various Michelin starred kitchens throughout Europe, the two chefs have accumulated a strong pedigree between them. Dishes like beetroot topped by sardine, trout roe and creme fraiche with samphire and exquisite petits fours are typical of the nine course tasting menu. Expect a "truly wicked bringing together of milk ice cream, pureed avocado and a spoonful of caviar" says Fay Maschler, giving the place four stars in her Evening Standard review.
