If you're looking for a simple weeknight meal and glass of wine, Eat & Drink Chinese is perhaps not for you. While an extensive menu will keep diners both entertained and intrigued (question: what exactly is 'amusement chicken'?), the far from unique designation of this alleyway treasure fails to capture its bona fide heart and soul: Madonna, Kylie and some old-school Abba. That's right, come 10pm, what you mistook to be a no-frills independent Chinese restaurant and takeaway miraculously transforms into an all-singing, all-dancing karaoke bar. Of course, while entertainment is paramount, 'eating' and 'drinking', particularly the latter, are essential prerequisites of this Spitalfields extravaganza. Make sure to sample the stand out entrée dishes ? chicken satay, mashed prawns on toast with sesame seed and steamed pork dumplings are bargain favourites at around ?6 per plate. As for the aforementioned 'amusement chicken', despite having a remarkable resemblance to fried ham, this bowl of deep fried nibbles will leave the whole table craving more. And, with 116 dishes available on the Eat & Drink menu, you'll never find yourself having to order the same thing.
