Brixton Market's Franco Manca has achieved legendary status over the past few years, serving rustic sourdough pizzas with fresh, simple but dynamic toppings, all baked in a wood burning brick oven shipped over from Naples. Now an eagerly awaited second branch has opened up in west London a stone's throw from Turnham Green tube in Chiswick. The seasonal menu remains the same: six varieties of pizza, including the classic capers/olives/anchovy offering. There are often specials on the menu, such as an intriguing calzone/pizza hybrid with wild boar, ricotta and salami on one side and tomato, mozzarella and rocket on the other. It's early days for the new Franco Manca branch and the atmosphere is a little lacking compared to the ever bustling Brixton original, but there's plenty of room to sit and crucially, unlike the feted flagship pizzeria, you can make reservations so you shouldn't have to wait outside in the cold before being treated to what is supposedly amongst the best pizza in London. Service can be, however, rather comical and, at times, excruciatingly wide of the mark, while, if we were nit-picking, the pizza bases are slightly chewy around the edges and soggy in the middle.
