Putting Shepherds Bush on the culinary map, Lorraine Caie, founder of nearby the Hummingbird Cafe and Deli, set up Habanera in 2014 and immediately heated up the local restaurant scene earning 'Mexican Restaurant of the Year' at the Air Europa Latin UK Awards a year later. The brightly coloured interior, filled with upcycled orange and turquoise chairs and tables, and glass front - which opens up on hot summer evenings - makes an inviting space for Mexican kitchen team, headed up by Josue and Ernesto, to present their trio of tacos and burritos. A seasonally changing menu offers classic fillings such as chilli chicken (with house chilli blend, avocado and Habanera sauce), BBQ beef (crispy onions and house made BBQ sauce), Baha fish, wild mushroom, 3 Little Pigs and coconut prawn - all designed to share. The drinks list is full of cool cocktails, margaritas and refrescos, as well as a dedicated tequila and mezcal menu, complete with tasting notes to educate customers on the potent Mexican spirit.
