Making Gourmet Burger Kitchen look like McDonald's, the charred and bloody burgers of Hache, served on airy Ciabatta buns that perfectly soak up the juices, have a strong claim to be being the best in the capital. Lit by candles and fairy lights, Hache is a sweet, unpretentious space that's particularly comforting on a cold winter's evening. It's pretty affordable, the portions are humungous (try the blue cheese and bacon topping) and the wine list perfectly acceptable. The restaurant is the second of a family venture that started out in Camden. Refreshingly, no swearing is allowed in the kitchen (Gordon Ramsey, eat your heart out) and all the meat comes from one farm in the Scottish Lowlands. "A real gem," says The Guardian.
