It all started in 2008 when German-born, Brighton-based friends Florian Frey and Azadeh Falakshahi started importing homemade sausages from their family butcher in the Black Forest to sell in Brighton. Now Herman Ze German is in three London locations and their wursts have a near cult following. Each wurst is made to an authentic German recipe, using the freshest free-range meat sourced from family-run, quality butchers in Germany's Black Forest. The sizzling sausages are gluten and lactose-free and have a meat content of 95% - earning themselves the nickname 'Tube Steaks'. There are three varieties of 27-centimetre weiners - Bratwurst, Chilli Beef and Brockwurst - all grilled to perfection and served with toppings including sauerkraut, onions and lashings of mustard. Or, opt for the Ze Bratmeister, which sees the signature Bratwurst topped with freshly roasted vegetables, aged feta and homemade veal gravy. Fat-free chips cooked without oil and meatballs also grace the menu, while some say Herman Ze German's famous Currywurst is ze best to be tasted both inside and outside Germany. Wash down with some Fritz-Kola, a cocktail or bier and you're all set. This Charlotte Street branch is the third Herman ze German in London, alongside the original restaurant on Villiers Street in Covent Garden and a second outlet on Old Compton Street, Soho.
