Rohit Ghai, the chef who won a Michelin star at Jamavar within a year of opening, has his first solo site in Kutir, an Indian restaurant just off Chelsea's Sloane Square. It comes with the backing of Ghai and Abhi Sangwan who have worked together at Gymkhana, Jamavar and Bombay Bustle. Meaning 'cottage' in Sanskrit, Kutir draws inspiration from the royal tradition of hunting expeditions in the Indian countryside. This is feasting-style food. Menus, which include a tasting, or 'expedition' menu of six courses, feature seasonal ingredients with an emphasis on game and seafood. The la carte menu lists dishes like truffle and mushroom khichadi, lobster bonda and rasam, 24-hour slow-cooked rogan josh, and a tandoori stone bass with crispy squid. Co-founder and at front of house, Abhi Sangwan has compiled the cocktail list while interiors draw on natural, rural Indian scenes with walls covered in lush greens and prints of tigers and elephants. The small roof-top terrace has a trellis wall, palm trees and seasonal flowers.
