After playing host to the Disappearing Dining Club last year, the Ropewalk warehouse on Maltby Street now welcomes LASSCO Bar & Dining, a new permanent eatery from chef James Knox Boothman and bar manager Jerome Slesinski. The restaurant makes the most of its historical home, inviting guests to dine amongst the vintage goods in the Textiles Room, Eisenhower Room and the old US Naval HQ, where President Eisenhower helped plan the D-Day landings. Failing that, you can also opt to dine at the teakwood bar, which serves signature cocktails such as the Jamaica Road, with hibiscus, sarsaparilla, vodka, lemon and egg white; the Maltby Mary, a vegan bloody Mary with pickled walnuts, horseradish, lovage, cornichons and red wine; and the South Eastern, with gin, salt roasted blood orange, bay and black cardamom, vermouth and sparkling wine. The food is modern European, serving dishes likes wild Sussex boar braised in sherry, Cornish lemon sole with crab croquettes and, scallops with white truffle and a cauliflower and almond broth. For dessert, feast on salted flourless chocolate cake with olive oil ice cream or rhubarb jelly with calvados custard and cobnut crumb.
