Not what you'd expect of a restaurant within the Marriott hotel on Park Lane, Lanes of London takes street food and confines it within four walls of a Mayfair hotel. So the menu is divided into areas of London and the type of cuisine typical of that locale. So under Brick Lane you get Indian food, Kingsland Road stands for Vietnamese, Edgware Road represents food from the Middle East and Portobello Road stands for burgers and fried chicken. The bar creates the first impression as you enter the restaurant with bevelled mirrors and clear and colured glass creating a warm welcome as you arrive. The restaurant itself has leather banquettes and is divided by screens for privacy while large bay windows give elevated views onto Speaker's Corner and Marble Arch. Reviewing Lanes of London for the Guardian, Jay Rayner found it to be a poor substitute for the real thing but concedes that the sliders "are glorious and make me hum happily to myself" and the desserts which include "jammy dodgers served in their own cutesy tin" almost make up for the "bizarre inconsistencies".
