Lina Stores, a long standing and much loved Soho institution, brings its freshly made pasta and eye catching Italian deli to King's Cross, 75 years after the original Italian food store first opened on Brewer Street. In the same row of restaurants as Dishoom, Lina Stores King's Cross presents a spacious 100-seat restaurant and deli, decked out in the pretty pastel green that's become a Lina trademark. Beginning with breakfast, the Italian 'la colazione' can be a leisurely fill of truffle scrambled eggs or polenta e funghi or a quick coffee and Italian pastry at the deli. Here you can also buy top quality Italian pantry essentials - salumi, cheeses, antipasti - and watch fresh pasta being rolled, folded and stuffed. Pasta is particularly good. In the restaurant, no less than nine different types of pasta are served on small plates - three or four are recommended for sharing with a friend. We tried pumpkin ravioli with sage, rondini stuffed with a generous portion of crab and scallop and - most indulgent - a rich 30 egg yolk taglionlini, simply served with parmigiano, butter and black truffle and simply delicious. But before all that were antipasti plates of stracciatella (a gooey soft cream cheese made from mozzarella curd and cream) with charred tomatoes, roasted aubergines with queen sized olives, pine nuts and raisins as well as paper thin sliced tuna tonnato with capers. Larger secondi choices include beef cheeks, seasonal seafood and vegetarian options while the dessert trolley delivers crowd pleasing classics - rum baba, torta Genoese, tiramisu and home-made gelato. It's the quality of ingredients, the Italian-ness of it and the stylish interiors that make us love Lina Stores and we're sure you'll fall head over heels for it too.
