Following a successful pop-up in Camden Samuel Haim, who's behind sustainable seafood restaurant Hook in Greenwich and Camden, has set up a permanent home for Mr Ji in Soho. Inspired by his visits to the bustling capital city of Taipei, Mr Ji dishes up crispy fried chicken dusted with flavoured powders, along with booze-spiked Taiwanese teas. Made with free range chicken, their hero dish is a huge butterflied chicken breast, brined, coated in gluten-free sweet potato flour and deep fried. Different flavourings, which include traditional spice, Thai ketchup and Korean BBQ, are accompanied by Mini Ji's - bite-sized pieces of marinated thigh tossed in house made sauces. Hot and sour Taiwanese soup, the Bao burger served in a steamed bun, house fries and Taipei slaw are also on the menu. The space, designed by Mystery, makes use of recycled materials - tables had a previous life as scaffolding boards. Taiwanese street art and light boxes emblazoned with bold quotes help recreate the neon-lit buzz of Shilin Night Market in Taipei.
