In the centre of Osteria , the Italian restaurant on the second floor of the Barbican Centre, is an old meat slicer and table dedicated to charcuterie. Italian meats, including 'Roman-style' tripe and Sicilian sausage give this modern restaurant created by Searcys in collaboration with Anthony Demetre (the man behind the Michelin starred Arbutus and Wild Honey) its distinctive flavour. Under head chef Patrick Leano, formerly of Arbutus, the kitchen produces starters of carpaccio of sea bream, grilled octopus, potatoes and smoked peppers are followed by homemade pasta dishes and suckling pig or slow cooked beef polenta served with roast onions. Polenta cake with orange marmalade, and zabaione complete the ingredient-focussed menu. Brass light fixtures and door handles, leather upholstery and splashes of luxurious fabrics in the booths are combined with work of artists from Limoncello Gallery in Hagerston on the walls while a neon sign above the bar says 'Amore Bibo', Latin for 'I drink with Love'.
