Concentrating on the cuisine and wines of Puglia, "the scorched heel of Italy" (Evening Standard), Ostuni in Queens Park and in Highgate Village is all about simplicity and flavour. Mixed antipasti - a small plate of salami and olives, meatballs, mussels, croquettes, friselle, pickles and bread - is followed by pastas of the region. Orecchiette di grano arso with cime di rapa, salted anchovy, chilli and garlic or beef featherblade braciole, meatball, cacioricotta. Puglia's seafood specialities are also well represented with shellfish pastas, wild sea bass and bream cooked in a salt crust, or a rich stew of octopus in clay pot with black chickpeas. As for meat, their 'fornello pronto' stone oven is fired up with charcoal every evening to give aroma and flavour to succulent 'bombette' stuffed with provolone, T-bone steaks, devilled baby chicken and more. Elegant yet functional, the dining space is decorated with distressed furniture, antique farming tools and Locorotondo stone on the walls.
