David Lesniak and David Muniz - partners in business and life - are the duo behind the American bakery in Chiswick, the Outsider Tart, "one of Britain's few authentic US bakeries" (Metro). Having moved from New York to London they discovered a lack of good, wholesome cupcakes, sweet pies and fresh tarts and so - as outsiders - they set up a cafe specialising in American style baked goods. Their red velvet cakes and coconut cream pies, made using family recipes that have been handed down through the generations, have earned them a good reputation - cemented by a Restaurant & Bar Design Awardaward in 2010 for cafe/fast food outlet of the year. The shop and cafe, although devoted to all things sweet and yummy - with as many as 15 cheesecakes on its regular menu - also does savoury dishes and chefs' supper plates, and they sell a huge range of dry goods from back home including Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Bone Suckin' Hot Sauce as well as US favourites like Reese's Peanut Butter Chips. Every Thursday they stay open late, cook up a big pot of chili and serve it up with cornbread, BYOB. The two Davids are also available for bake masterclasses and host chefs' soul food suppers.
