Good news for fans of Padella, the hugely popular fresh pasta place in Borough which frequently has big queues out the door. Owners Tim Siadatan and Jordan Frieda are branching out to a second site, this time in Shoreditch. Famous for its short menu - there are eight handmade pasta dishes on the menu in Borough - and affordable prices, Padella was born out of a desire from Tim and Jordan to make quality handmade fresh pasta accessible and at £7 to £10.50 a dish these are prices everyone can afford. What began as a 'greatest hits' of Trullo, the duo's restaurant in Highbury, has taken on a life of its own. Padella uses traditional Italian techniques with quality British produce to make real, slow cooked sauces and Italian ragus. The signature dish is pappardelle with 8-hour beef shin ragu and other options include tagliarini with brown shrimps, green and yellow courgette, squid ink tagliarini with mussels, chilli and oregano, and ravioli of pumpkin and marjoram with sage butter. Tagliarini with Dorset crab, chilli and lemon is also an oldie but goodie.
