Pescheria Mattiucci

Run by brothers, Luigi and Gennaro Mattiucci from Napoli, Pescheria Mattiucci calls itself a 'fish boutique' but is best described as a small deli-cum-fishmongers-cum-cafe. Located just off the Portobello Road, Pescheria Mattiucci may look like a fish mongers from the outside but once inside you'll find a seafood restaurant with a few (six or seven) tables, with barrels as seats, where fish caught in an eco-friendly way (hooks not nets) arrives from Sicily, Naples and Sardinia in less than 12 hours. The family business already owns a few outposts in Italy and this Notting Hill cafe is their first venture outside the country. The London venue is a collaboration with chef Diego Simonetti who creates dishes for the handwritten menu which changes every day depending on the catch of the day. If you're not sure what to have the owner is happy to tell you all about the day's produce and recommend the best wine to accompany it. An aperitivo of pesce crudo - raw tuna, salmon and whatever else they've caught that day - is a speciality. For a main course you can always choose the fresh fish which is served by the kilo. Here you can also get an authentic espresso as well as goods imported from Naples.
