Portobello Ristorante Pizzeria

Portobello Ristorante Pizzeria - or Portobello Pizza as it is known by the denizens of W11 - isn't actually on Portobello but it does serve delicious pizza. And not any ordinary pizza - you know, the round ones - but instead, the place's own slice of Naples comes served by the yard on a wooden apparatus propped on your table. It's not exactly a unique gimmick - the Made in Italy chain has been doing the same for many a year - but it's certainly a lot of fun when you're eating in a group and entirely justified by the quality of what comes out of the oven. Quibblers will say there is perhaps a bit too much chewy crust, but the vast majority of what you get is tasty, succulent, traditional and worth the ?8 or so it costs. The menu also has an array of antipasti (a shade expensive), pasta and meat dishes but people only really come for what AA Gill rather backhandedly describes as "probably the best pizza in Notting Hill" (Arancina around the corner might have something to say about that, but hey). A large terrace at the front is ideal in summer months but best avoid the rather cramped downhill room (especially if you're over six foot). Service isn't as fast as Usain Bolt but it's as jolly as the pizzas are good. Given Portobello Pizza's snowballing popularity we suggest you book to avoid disappointment.
