A grand entrance welcomes you into the basement dining room of Samarkand, a Fitzrovia restaurant offering Uzbek cuisine evocative of the Silk Road. Open for lunch and dinner, Samarkand celebrates the melting pot of cultures in this corner of the east, offering traditional dishes with a contemporary touch. Dishes, all favourites which founder Sanjar Nabiev remembers from his childhood in Uzbekistan, recall traditional favourites like jizbiz (lamb chops with sauteed potatoes), fatinon (a flaky, buttery bread), somsa (pastry parcel filled with lamb or sweet potato), and the signature plov - a classic Uzbekistan dish of fried rice served with lamb and vegetables. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the mezzanine lounge bar and choose from the impressive selection of vodka which can be paired with dishes, sipped alone or with bar snacks of pickled vegetables and aubergine caviar.
