Doing one thing and doing it well, Santa Nata specialises in Pastel de Nata - the cute custard tarts famously found in Portugal. Owned by the second generation of a Portuguese family of bakers, the cafe sells sweet custard tarts - made to a recipe that's a closely guarded secret. The flaky tarts - which you can see being made when you peer in the shop's tall glass windows - are best enjoyed, Lisbon style, with coffee, port or ginjinha, a traditional sour cherry liqueur. Fresh, warm tarts are available to eat-in or take-away - just listen out for the bell signalling a fresh batch has come out of the oven. There are two Santa Nata stores in Covent Garden - one on Russell Street overlooking the piazza and the other a five minute walk away on New Row near St Martin's Lane.
