Having set up Sushi des Artistes in Marbella, Spain, in 2007 Jay Joden brought the concept to London in May 2012, establishing a sister restaurant on London's Sloane Avenue. Joden brings over 30 years of experience running restaurants in New York, London and Tokyo to the restaurant in South Kensington which specialises in Japanese cuisine with a French twist. Sushi comes in a cocktail glass and main dishes are called things like 'I Had a Dream' - a combination of Bincho grilled eel, mango, truffled green soy and bean puree - and 'The Best is Yet to Come', a grilled skate dish. Staff are friendly and there's a buzz about the place with orders acknowledged with the word 'hai', Japanese for 'yes'. It's expensive, some may argue overpriced, but this is Sloane Avenue and, as you'd expect, this is sushi for Gucci set.
