Reopened in 2013 as part of a major renovation of the Hotel Cafe Royal, The Oscar Wilde Bar (formerly the Grill Room) has been beautifully restored to its original ornate Louis XVI detailing and is now the place to enjoy afternoon tea, Champagne and a light evening menu. Of all the bars and restaurants at the famous Regent Street hotel, this room is particularly special. Oscar Wilde - after whom the restaurant is named - fell in love with Lord Alfred Douglas here, Aubrey Beardsley debated with Whistler, David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust and Mick Jagger, and the Beatles and Elizabeth Taylor have partied in this very room. Afternoon tea is served daily from 12noon and the London High Society afternoon tea menu has some traditional yet surprising dishes such as wild boar, crackling, pickled apple and mustard bun; Mary Rose prawn cocktail; and Strawberry rose "Regent". In the evenings the mirrored room becomes a champagne lounge with live entertainment. While watching the cabaret singers, character comedians, and live musicians guests enjoy a set menu and Champagne, followed by DJs, drinking and dancing until late. Dress code: "celebrative and sophisticated", in other words, dress up.
