Located on the site of the former Bank of New Zealand, The Trading House invokes the spirit of the East India Trading Company with 'hanging kebabs', ales and cocktails served in the grade II listed Victorian space. Dominated by a striking central bar, the 96-cover restaurant also has a mezzanine area for drinks and live music every night. Cocktails offer intriguing twists on classics resulting in choices of lavender sazerac, cinnamon and ginger Manhattan, and cumin Bloody Mary while beers cover the world's craft breweries, including US Blue Moon Brewing Co, western Australia's Little Creatures, and Germany's Paulaner. You can even pair your cocktail with a beer and try a miniature cocktail mixed to complement a beer and served alongside it. The food menu is full of freshly cooked quality pub fare with rotisserie and barbeque sections listing burgers, steaks and whole roasted chickens. But the signature 'hanging kebabs' go the extra mile with choices of grilled meats, prawns or halloumi.
