Following the success of the flagship Vinoteca in Farringdon, a second branch of the award-winning wine bar and bistro has opened up in Marble Arch six years on. The original was opened in 2005 by Brett Woonton and Charlie Young - who met at Italian specialists Liberty Wines - and Elena Ares, and its no-booking policy and sudden popularity made it a busy spot at Smithfield Market at lunchtime, attracting a sophisticated city crowd. The second incarnation of Vinoteca has a distinctively different vibe, not merely owing to its slightly west-of-centre location but also to its rather bland interior. But fear not, the food and - most importantly - the wine still means the place stands heads-and-shoulders above its rivals, and at the time of writing it's still not too hard to walk in and secure a table (this will no doubt change soon). Members of staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and there's the same tasty, frequently changing European menu, offering delicious dishes to be paired up with wine from across the world.
