Free-range chicken and eggs are the two ingredients in just about every dish at Whyte & Brown. From breakfast to dinner chicken and egg are the hero ingredients in every dish, from soups to salads and even in the desserts. Start with a Bangkok-Scotch egg or share polenta encrusted chicken strips. Move onto mains which include choices of pollo-porro pasta - spaghetti tossed with chicken and leek balls - wild mushroom tagliatelle, or brick chicken crisp-skinned three ways: marinated breast roast-grilled under brick, 24-hour slow cooked thigh confit and 12-hour slow-cooked wing served with a jug of house-made gravy. The space itself, a great little spot for al fresco dining in Kingly Court, off Carnaby Street, has floor-to-ceiling windows with the main restaurant upstairs and an after-work drinking den downstairs. There's a communal dining area with long, low-level sharing tables and benches, and a chef's table for a bird's eye view into the kitchen. Whyte & Brown is brought to you by creative director Fiona Gale and head chef Paul Fletcher. Just don't ask them which came first, chicken or egg - they don't know. But what they do know is that free-range is best.
