The London sushi scene got a whole lot better with the opening of High Street Kensington's upmarket Yashin in autumn 2010. Brought to you by two veteran itamae master chefs, Yashin is compact, simple, kitsch and easy on the eye - much like the delicious morsels that are meticulously created and beautifully presented by knife-welding chefs in front of your eyes. Unlike the majority of the capital's Japanese restaurants, there are few cooked dishes on offer, soy sauce shoyus don't clutter the tables and the menu tends towards that of a set-meal of creative flavour combinations as opposed to bog-standard a la carte pickings. Included are chef's menus at ?30 (eight pieces of nigiri plus a roll), ?45 (11-piece ensemble plus a roll) or and arm and a leg (?60) for 'The Yashin' - 15 pieces of exquisite sushi created in front of your eyes (the use of a blow-torch included). Sake is served in vials and miso soup comes in tea cups, while there is also a Salmon lunch set for ?12.50 - and that gets you five nigiri, a roll, miso soup and garlic chipped salad. Let's not beat about the bush: this is expensive dining - but if you're prepared to pay the price, your taste buds will be forever indebted.Yashin images
