Claiming to be 'the West End's Best Known Pub', Norman's Coach & Horses certainly has more than its fair share of unique features. Firstly there's the landlord after whom the pub is named - Norman Balon (now retired) who for years held the title of 'London's Rudest Landlord'. Then there were the Private Eye lunches held here for forty years - with editor Richard Ingrams hosting fortnightly staff meetings in the room upstairs. This was the pub - then known as the Coach and Horses - that inspired Micheal Heath's Private Eye comic strip 'The Regulars'. It also became the set for the play 'Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell', starring Peter O'Toole. Thankfully, all of that character still remains (minus the chewing gum on the carpet); the bar stools are worn and frayed, and there are no juke boxes - instead you get a traditional pub piano session to sing along to. Resisting the urge to turn it into yet another gastropub, Norman's Coach & Horses remains a truly traditional drinking man's pub - and we're all in favour of it.
