The Curtains Up in Barons Court has undergone a radical overhaul (it reopened in August 2009 after a two-week refit), and is now part of the fast growing Geronimo Inns group (27 pubs and counting). Famous for its small basement theatre - which thankfully remains untouched - you can now get decent food (courtesy of the group's executive chef Peter Wright) before, during and after performances. The theatre's location close to LAMDA means there's a steady supply of young thesps ready to tread the boards and the intimate space makes it popular with budding directors. Real ales including Adams and Doombar are on tap to keep the traditionalists happy while the pretty pink velvet seats and designer lampshades are a vast improvement on sticky carpets and strip lighting. We thoroughly enjoyed the fine wines and fish and chips on offer at the launch night and will certainly be back to sample the sea bass and soft cabaret promised in the theatre downstairs.The Curtains Up images
