A short walk up Grove Road towards Victoria Park is what looks to be a typical East London pub with hanging baskets on the walls and benches outside the front. But don't be fooled by this bland exterior, for The Victoria is anything but that once you step inside. With shabby chic décor including battered sofas, odd bar stools and various stuffed animals, this trendy pub attracts a mixed crowd of hipsters and young professionals. The walls are adorned with old photographs in antique frames and in the corner there is a stage which is occupied most nights by various acts. There is a large beer garden to the rear with plenty of shelter from the typical British weather. There's a staple selection of bottle beers and ciders along with a large array of draughts, including Red Stripe (something of a rarity when not served in a can). Burgers and all day breakfasts - a real steal for just ?4 - are available from a limited bar menu. Each day brings a new event, whether it's a new local DJ on a Thursday, a jumble/bric-a-brac/cake sale on a Sunday (including the twice-monthly World of Curiosities event) or even a pop-up hairdressers serving up Hoxton Mullets and Camden Combovers. Opposite the pub is the excellent Britannia Fish and Chip Shop, which always attracts a large queue of faithful customers. The Victoria events
