Inspired by the credit crunch, Mean Fiddler bar magnate Vince Power's new Ladbroke Grove bar Liquid Nation (Liquidation, geddit?) combines free live music and cheap drinks in an ostensible bid to make people aware of the current financial climate. Hence the huge pictures of Sir Fred Goodwin and Bernie Madoff in the windows, the student union-type décor and - get this - the ?2.50 price tag set against every drink behind the bar (and bottles of wine from ?7). Located in a rather shabby concrete block underneath the Westway flyover, Liquid Nation (formerly Ten West and Ion Bar) is an attempt to bring a bit of Dalston cool to West London. The interior was designed by 10 art students - which explains the mishmash furniture and second-hand shop feel - and the staff are friendly. There's certainly a relaxed vibe here and with live music in the basement from Wednesday to Saturday, the place is bound to fill. All in all, you can hardly argue with a place that lets you get in a round of four drinks for a tenner - even if you have to drink beer from the cans. It remains to be seen, however, if this latest Power venture will retain its purpose once the recession wears off and we've forgotten about Robert Peston et al.Location map of Liquid Nation
