The New End Theatre began life in 1890 as the mortuary of the former New End Hospital. The mortuary was linked to the hospital by a tunnel. In 1974, Buddy Dalton converted the building into a theatre and quickly gained a reputation of showing new, innovative plays. Early hits included the world première of Jean Anouilh's 'You Were So Sweet When You Were Little' and 'The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs.' Today, the New End Theatre continues to showcase new writing and creative revivals. Since then, the New End Theatre has staged a number of leading plays including Steven Berkoff's 'Sit and Shiver' which transferred to Hackney Empire, 'Lies Have Been Told' which transferred to Trafalgar Studios and 'Sophie Tucker One Night Stand' by Chris Burgess which went on tour.
