One of London’s longest running comic outings, Newsrevue started out way back in 1979. The premise is simple; two boys and two girls take the stage to take a satirical look at the week’s news. The formula’s been done before and since (Weekending, That was the Week that was and Have I Got News for You, and that’s just on TV and radio), but Newsrevue is live four nights a week. Its staying power is testament to the excellent writing and talented performers.
The topical nature of the show and ever changing performers and writers has meant it has stayed really fresh. The show is updated each week and the performers are constantly prone to improvisation.
The theatre sits atop a charming pub, secluded behind red drapes, peering out of the antique glass windows, it’s a wonderful place for a drink before the show. The gastro food is well worth a try too. Oh, and didn’t I mention? You are right in the middle of Little Venice, an area of picturesque canals and flower decorated barges, wonderful for an evening stroll.
