Originally built in 1898 as a theatre, Notting Hill's Coronet is now the place to go for a good, old-fashioned cinema experience. The dcor harks back to the days of Edwardian elegance, with plush seating and a regal, if slightly faded, elegance, which might explain why King Edward VII was a regular here back in the days of variety shows. Despite a refurb, it's not the most technically advanced venue in the capital but has a unique atmosphere that's a hard to find in cinemas these days - legend has it that the ghost of a female cashier caught with her hands in the till roams the corridors. The cinema's two screens show the latest big releases as well as independent films.
