This exhibition is situated on the site of Bankside's first theatre, which was only discovered by Museum of London archaeologists in 1989. This was the place where Shakespeare originally learnt his craft.
Using a variation on the illusionistic 'Pepper's Ghost' technique originally developed for Victorian music halls and fairs, actor Sir Ian McKellen narrates the sound and light presentation which forms a major part of the exhibition.
Electro-luminescents submerged in the water are selectively lit to show where the theatre's remains lie concealed below.
