Making use of 107 High Street, Stratford, a building scheduled for demolition in 2013, Sugarhouse Studios is a cinema, cafe and bar with a programme of film club nights and appearances by artists including Jeremy Deller and Bob & Roberta Smith. Occupying an abandoned sign-writers workshop just south of the Olympic Park, Sugarhouse Studios is very much a celebration of the area's complex histories and in investigation of its mirad of possible futures. One week you can see a screening of director Julian Temple's latest film, The Modern Babylon, which casts London as the new Babylon, followed by a Q & A with producer George Hencken. And the next Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller appears with sometime accomplice Nick Abrahams for a discussion on their film on Bruce Lacey which explores the many aspects to his creativity. Aongside the event space, there will be a workshop for small scale making and design and a cafe and bar, open seven days a week. Get there quick, before the building becomes rubble.
