This concept bar is an inspired idea: eight lanes of bowling, in a stylish venue, with a classy diner and a sophisticated jukebox, all eccentrically located in an old car park under the Tavistock Hotel. Neon lights, arcade games and chicken-in-a-basket meal deals are a definite no-show here. Instead retro-chic and smooth service is the key. There are some wonderful touches to the 1950s decor. The bowling ball return machines are above ground, so that after each turn, your ball whizzes back towards you in a thoroughly satisfying way. The heart-shaped diner seats are an absolutely authentic slice of Americana and huge windows give you a great view of those beautiful parallel lines that bowling alleys make. Karaoke, cocktails, pool and unique horseshoe-shaped bar complete the alluring package. If parts of Bloomsbury Bowling's venue feel a tad rough and ready, this only adds to the unique, relaxed, chilled-out atmosphere. A unique, alternative night out.
