Situated in the grounds of Henry VIII’s former residence, Hampton Court Palace, with deer roaming about the fairway, this golf course is an agreeable choice for a relaxing round.
The course dates back to 1895 but has been remodelled more recently by Willie Park – designer of Royal Birkdale and Sunningdale. It has played host to many a royal in its time. This relatively flat inland links has 18 holes and a par of 71, scattered with plenty of sandy lies and fairway moguls, it makes for an interesting game. There’s a collection of par-4 holes which require a wood or long iron for those who relish a challenge.
The nineteenth hole doesn’t disappoint either. The new club house with a bar and restaurant opened in 2003 and furnishes golfers with a comfy place to refuel, unwind and mull over the day’s triumphs and tragedies.
To hit a few bogies - or birdies if your luck’s in – it’s not cheap and prices are evn higher at weekends. They have equipment for hire, including buggies and trolleys. Tuition is available from PGA professionals.
