Head south of the river for an energetic runabout on the courts of Putney. It might not be the world famous All England Club in Wimbledon, but that’s only just down the road.
The club’s 10 courts (three acrylic and seven synthetic grass) are available for play seven days a week throughout the year. Coaching is available in a variety of combinations to suit everybody: group/individual-evening/weekends-juniors/adults. The club is committed to promoting the sport and improving standards.
For the competitive among us, the club organises tournaments and leagues. On the other hand, if you haven’t played for a while and fancy brushing up away from mocking opponents or well-meaning coaches, they hire ball machines too.
Once the sun has sunk too far below the horizon, a social club supplies the glue for the community atmosphere. It’s open all day at weekends and from 6pm during the week with an affably placed Happy Hour on Friday nights. Play continues inside, with table tennis and snooker to quench any more sporting thirsts.
