In Ayurveda the five basic elements - earth, water, fire, air and space, conglomerate within the human body to form the three Doshas or basic physiological principles that govern all bodily functions. Each person has a unique blend of these Doshas, known as their Prakriti or constitution, which requires individualised treatment. Disease is seen as a state of imbalance of one or more Doshas within an individual. Ayurvedic remedies promote internal well-being and external beauty by ensuring a healthy balance of Doshas.
