Don't be fooled by the drab restaurant above, or by the general lack of self-promotion, 22 Below is an extremely stylish bar. It's a tiny one-room affair, with decks in the corner and a plain, elegant decor. Carefully spaced seating encourages mingling and helps spread people out, while the music was nicely pitched to encourage dancing without completely preventing conversation. On the Friday night we went, they were playing an extremely fine selection of hip-hop, mixing the best of the charts with current underground hits and a few classics. This was having the desired effect and the good-looking crowd of bright young things was dancing energetically and drinking hard. Cocktails include a few old favourites enlivened by clever touches and some brilliant original creations. Altogether, this is a smart addition to the area and a genuine rival to the Kingly Street bars just across the way. Well worth a look.Location map of 22 Below
