The Buddha Bar first found fame in the 90s as a Parisian DJ bar and Oriental restaurant. The music was so sought-after their 'lounge' and 'chill-out' CDs brought The Buddha Bar to an international audience. Since then Raymond Visan has expanded his empire to Beirut, Cairo, Dubai and beyond. Now there are hotels, a spa and smaller Little Buddha Cafe bars under the George V Restauration Group - you can stay at Buddha Bar hotels in Prague, Panama and Budapest or rejuvenate at their sublime spa in Evian-les-Bains. In London, for the time being anyway, we can content ourselves with the DJ bar and restaurant situated next to Waterloo Bridge, between Brettenham House and Somerset House, which follows the original Buddha-themed formula. The atmosphere is laid back, with subdued amber lighting and DJs setting the mood.
