The new licensing laws are, for better or worse, finally eroding the Fulham culture where late-night drinking took place in the basements of local restaurants. Chateau 6, replacing the notably grotty White Hart pub, is a sign of the new wave, with a 2am license Thursday-Saturday and a boozy young mixture of posh locals and Antipodeans. The decor has obviously been designed with both groups in mind: the Sloanes will love the chandeliers, the smart furniture and the stunning garden; the international crowd will enjoy the loud music and simple, tasty food. There's been a pub on this spot since the 1600s, but this is a thoroughly modern, uncomplicated late-night venue. a fun spot that should come into its own in summer.
