In the warm summer months faithful punters from The Crooked Billet buy their pints before crossing the road to drink on the large swathe of grass or under the shady trees of Wimbledon Common. Like the neighbouring Hand In Hand pub, this unpretentious, rustic public house is run by Young's the brewery and is ever popular with both locals and transient passers-by. In fact, it's such an experience that people come from all over London to have a drink here in the heart of Wimbledon Village. A raging log fire keeps drinkers warm in the winter, while a couple of courtyards provide the perfect setting for an al-fresco summer tipple if you don't fancy the vast expanse of the common across the road. Large flagstones, bare brickwork, low ceilings and plenty nooks and crannies give the Crooked Billet a distinctive atmosphere, while there are also a selection of comfy chairs, benches and rugs. With a building steeped in history, a delicious pub menu and a fine selection of beer, ale and wine, the Crooked Billet ticks many boxes other than its prime location.
