Even by the standards of designer Shaun Clarkson (who also created La Pigalle, Atlantic Bar & Grill and Jerusalem) this is a madly over-the-top bar. Austin Powers and Alice in Wonderland seem to have been the major influences, though that really only scratches the surface of the craziness. Giant rearing horses, panthers and human hands greet you at every turn, the walls and floor of the back bar are a queasy-making check pattern, the front bar is a carousel and the poor DJ has been stuck in a cage. There are plenty of normal - and expertly created - cocktails on the menu, but it's well worth venturing into more eccentric areas: a coriander mojito was an absolute revelation, while the 'Electric' house specialities (one of which costs £96, and arrives in a glass the size of a beachball), are wonderful examples of cocktails that just taste like delicious fruit juices. The food is also very good: dim sum were bursting with freshness, carefully prepared, and fairly priced. Electric Birdcage is too eccentric for many people's taste, but you'd be daft not to at least pop in for a look, and the party crowd will absolutely love it.Electric Birdcage images
