Perhaps the last thing you would expect under South Kensington's upmarket Gainsborough Hotel is a compact cocktail bar pumping out electro house and nu-wave until 2.30am most mornings. Opened in October 2008, Ghost Inc prides itself as 'graffiti chic', a style which has been becoming more prevalent in the wake of garish fashion labels such as Von Dutch and, more recently, All Saints. Red and gold throne-style chairs, leather sofas, black crystal chandeliers, bijoux mirrors, brass lamp-stands, gothic writing and grafittied walls are the order of the day. The bar claims to have a list of cocktails 2000-strong - quite a boast in any books, although it may mean waiting for libation takes a fair while. The clientele is a mixed bag of suited 30-somethings, arty fashion types, students from nearby Imperial College and cool, young Sloanes who can't be bothered to head to Hoxton. Many may question weather such an edgy place isn't better suited to the East End, but Ghost Inc does make a welcome change from the stuffy haughtiness of Boujis or the in-your-face expensiveness and unimaginative faux glamour of Amika, Mahiki, Movida and other such establishments in the locality. Bar staff are notoriously sexy.
