Like the rest of this extravagantly designed restuarant, the lounge bar is styled on the ancient Mesopotamian city of Babylon. At a cost of £23 million for the redesign they could almost have reconstructed the entire city. The carvings on the walls in particular give the place an ancient, decadent feel, complemented by the dimly lit brass and leather details. Gilgamesh gets its name from the legendary Babylonian King, worshipped as a half-god, half-man hero, and this place would certainly be fit for him. With Ian Pengelley, formally of Notting Hill favourite E & O, dishing up a top notch range of Pan Asian fare, it's best to save this place up for a special occasion. To top it all (quite literally) the retractable roof can be peeled back on balmy summer nights for some almost al fresco dining. Heavenly.
